Healthy Date Truffles – The perfect Kids food dessert

Kids food desserts like these makes your water mouth, suitable for kids as well as adults.

I have named this kids food dessert the ball of happiness as it’s a super D-e-l-i-c-i-o-u-s and healthy treat for both toddlers and adults.

I have made this recipe repeatedly as it’s a very addictive and guilt free treat! Super sweet without a single drop of sugar added as the dates are naturally sweeten it.

There’s plenty of room to add to the topping, you choose whichever you like and roll them over in. Sesame is also a great option.

The good thing about this recipe is that you can freeze the paste and defrost it again for another treat day.


80 gram of organic hazelnuts or macadamia nuts (Super delicious with macadamia nuts)
60 gram of organic desiccated coconut
20 soft organic dates – Stone removed
4 tbsp organic cocoa powder



1. First blend the hazelnuts in a food processor. Make sure there’s no bigger pieces of nuts if it is for toddlers.

2. Add the dates, coconuts, cacao and blend everything into a “dough” and till the mass is stuck all together. Don’t blend too much.

3. Form the truffle balls with a spoon.

4. Dip it in whatever you desire, good examples could be: Sesam, desiccated coconut, Cacao powder ect.

    I reeeally want to make these for my 16 month old daughter and I, but I don’t have a food processor! Would it be possible to make these without one?

      yes the problem would be crushing the nuts small enough which is very important in order to avoid choking hazards.
      if you figure out a way to do that ( can work with an immersion hand blender ) then the rest is easy to mash into a mass.

    What are your storage recommendations and how long do they keep? Great recipie :). They look like truffles or doughnut holes.

      Hi, Amanda, You can make the paste and freeze it in a freezerbag or anything really that is suitable for freezing. Then when you defrost it you can form the truffles. i think it would do just fine the first 3 months in the freezer maybe more.

    I am thinking of replacing the crushed nuts with Macca powder to avoid the nut allergy issues at school. Macca powder has an almost nutty flavour. Would I just use the same weight as the nuts? Looks simple to make and healthy and delicious!

      Hi Johanna, hmmm I think if you use other similar type of fiber it would work. the coconut is what holds the mass together so it is pretty important to this recipe.
